Profiles of Learning
Assignment for Storytelling in Career Development (SLA 200)
SPRING 2026

Innovator and Collaborator
-
The Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success provide students with opportunities to obtain additional knowledge and skills across a wide range of fields and industries. The Profiles reveal IU Indianapolis’s goal of preparing students to succeed in their futures, not only in their professional roles, but also in their communities.
-
I explored both the “Innovator” and the “Community Contributor” profiles more closely and felt that both aligned with my current career journey in different ways, but it was the Innovator profile that resonated with me the most. According to the profile, “innovators see possibilities and the need for change, and they demonstrate and use their skills, talents, abilities, and disciplinary knowledge to pursue change, improvement, advancement, innovation, and knowledge creation in their own communities and beyond.” I feel that this statement aligns perfectly with my current career journey into the legal system and public policy.
-
Working in my role as DEIA Initiative Team Captain, I have explored how to make my office and the local judicial system a more inclusive and equitable environment. This experience has definitely allowed me to begin developing on the Innovator profile outside of the classroom.
-
After exploring the Innovator profile, I realized how much it aligned with my “introduction” in the previous class. This profile fits well for inquisitive individuals which is what I used to identify myself in the introduction. According to the profile, “innovators confront challenges by building on experiences and disciplinary expertise to approach situations and circumstances in original ways.” This statement really resonates with my passion for impacting public policy, and aligns with my creative side as well.
-
I plan to use some of the “What Will You Do” statements from the Profile in my skills and expertise section on my E-Portfolio because several of them align with skills that I have already developed in my current professional role. The “What are some examples” give me ideas of opportunities I can take to focus on skills that I may have not learned yet that will allow me to enhance my E-Portfolio as move through my journey.
